## What cookies are

Small files a site stores on your device. Some are needed to make the site
work; the rest we only use if you agree.

## Your choice

Strictly necessary cookies are always on — without them the site cannot
remember your language or the choice you make here. Everything else is off until
you turn it on, and you can change your mind at any time through **Cookie
preferences** in the page footer, or on this page. Refusing costs you nothing
but measurement.

Your choice is stored in a cookie called `consent` for six months, after which
we ask again. It records the date you decided, which is how we can show that
consent was given.

## What we set

The tables below are generated from the same registry the site itself uses, so
they cannot fall out of date.

**Strictly necessary** — three first-party cookies, shown in the table as **This
site**. `locale` remembers your language; `consent` stores the choice you make here;
`cms_preview` lets an editor preview unpublished content and is only ever set for an editor.

There is no sign-in on this site, so there is no cookie that keeps you signed
in. If you have read a policy on another site that named one here, it is gone.

**Analytics** — only with your consent. Google Ireland Limited provides Google
Tag Manager, which loads the measurement tags, and Google Analytics, which sets
`_ga` and `_ga_*`. Functional Software, Inc. (Sentry) records
`sentryReplaySession` to replay a session in which an error occurred.

**Advertising** — only with your consent. Google Ireland Limited sets
`_gcl_au` to measure advertising.

## Managing cookies in your browser

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking the
strictly necessary ones will make the site forget your language and ask about
cookies on every page.
